Variety of Fade Haircuts
There are many types of fade haircuts out there, so it can be difficult to decide which one to ask your barber for. For example, guys need to choose between high, mid, or low fades to determine where the fading process starts. Next, men must decide what clipper size (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) they'd like to use to determine how long or short they want the hair to be. Lastly, you can choose a taper fade or a skin fade, which determines how short the fade will go at the back, side burns.
A good fade should complement the longer hair on top. Low fades are more conservative than high fades.. Because of this, the low cut fade is often considered a a popular haircut for business professionals which also works well with beards. The end goal should be to get a low fade with medium to long length on the top of the head.
The mid fade is the perfect balance between the low fade and the high fade. Instead of the bald line starting at the top or bottom of the head, it starts right in the middle and has been getting alot of attention because of the balance it has with your whole haircut. It’s super versatile; works for both casual and professional settings. Most of the time mid fades are done with skin to really show the contrast and gradual transition of the haircut.
With the high fade, the blending starts very high. This type of fade really shows off the style of hair you have on top whether it’s curly, straight etc. When doing a high fade, men usually do a high skin fade (showing the skin and going with a zero) and usually like to pair it up with a lineup , outlining the front of the hairline. The result of a high skin fade is a nice high fade, with medium to short hair on the top. We suggest getting a high skin fade if you have any of the following hairstyles on the top; faux hawk, side part, slick back, braids or locs.
SKIN FADE VS TAPER FADE
(LEFT ) The skin fade is one of the most iconic types of fade types. It really leaves your haircut looking clean and fresh. It offers a high contrast whether it's a low, mid or high fade. With the skin / bald fade, a zero guard is used below the fading line so it leaves the bottom of the fade super clean and tight to the skin. Taper Fade Haircut
( RIGHT) Taper fades have been one of the most popular types of fades worldwide. It does the job of not fading your whole head but just the sides and the back. The taper fade is the perfect haircut if you’re looking just for a clean up or whether you want to still have some sort of fade going on, just not too noticeable. It fades around your hairline and neckline and around your temples while leaving length on other parts of your head.
What’s the difference between fade and a taper?
The taper fades the ends of temples and neckline while a normal skin fade will fade around your whole head. If you’re opting for a more conservative fade, the taper is the way to go.
The undercut fade is the perfect fade combination that gives the fade aspect but also leaves volume and length on the top. The fade is usually a high skin fade and has a tight transition to the top of the hair, leaving it with a lot of dimension and length. The barber will need to trim the sides of the hair on top to leave a nice tight transition to the length on the top of your head.
The Pompadour fade is the perfect hairstyle to keep a lot of volume on top while having little weight throughout the rest of the fade. Oftentimes a pompadour is paired with a mid fade. While the side and bottom are faded, the top of the head has a lot of length and volume and can be slicked back. this style is has been very trendy in 2021-2022 for men in their 20s to early 30's. When getting the pompadour, our customers usually use a pomade; we use layrite at our stores which can be bought in store or here. As you can see, there’s many levels to the iconic fade; if you want to keep it more conservative, sticking with a low or mid skin fade is the way to go. With that being said, the high fade really gives a clean and sharp look, especially when length is left on top and styled with our pomade. Tapers are the perfect swap for a fade if you're looking to just clean up the sides and neckline.
