There are many types of fade haircuts out there, so it can be difficult to decide which one to ask your barber for. For example, guys need to choose between high, mid, or low fades to determine where the fading process starts. Lastly, you can choose a taper fade or a skin fade, which determines how short the fade will go at the back, side burns. 
A good fade should complement the longer hair on top. Low fades are more conservative than high fades.. Because of this, the low cut fade is often considered a a popular haircut for business professionals which also works well with beards. The end goal should be to get a low fade with medium to long length on the top of the head.
The mid fade is the perfect balance between the low fade and the high fade. Instead of the bald line starting at the top or bottom of the head, it starts right in the middle and has been getting alot of attention because of the balance it has with your whole haircut. The taper fade is the perfect haircut if you’re looking just for a clean up or whether you want to still have some sort of fade going on, just not too noticeable. It fades around your hairline and neckline and around your temples while leaving length on other parts of your head.
What’s the difference between fade and a taper?
The taper fades the ends of temples and neckline while a normal skin fade will fade around your whole head. If you’re opting for a more conservative fade, the taper is the way to go.
The undercut fade is the perfect fade combination that gives the fade aspect but also leaves volume and length on the top. The fade is usually a high skin fade and has a tight transition to the top of the hair, leaving it with a lot of dimension and length. The barber will need to trim the sides of the hair on top to leave a nice tight transition to the length on the top of your head.
The Pompadour fade is the perfect hairstyle to keep a lot of volume on top while having little weight throughout the rest of the fade. Oftentimes a pompadour is paired with a mid fade. While the side and bottom are faded, the top of the head has a lot of length and volume and can be slicked back. this style is has been very trendy in 2021-2022 for men in their 20s to early 30's.
